Diaper Cake

I finished my latest (2nd) diaper cake and I think it turned out pretty good. I am not super crafty so if I make something that turns out I am incredibly excited. I like the idea because I think they are cute and practical (this cake includes 112 diapers). Here is a picture...what do you think? *Note: I made this for a friend of mine...she bought the Sox outfit. Adam is a total Cubs fan so I would never purchase a Sox baby outfit.

Welcome Caedence

My brother and his wife just welcomed another little girl into the family this past week (that makes 3 girls for them). I will not get to meet her until she is a few months old so I am a little bummed about that. Here is a picture of the little cutie! I Love how she already sticks her tongue out at the camera. Welcome to the family Caedence.

Bingo and Rain

Last Friday we had Back to School Bingo night. It was pretty chaotic but the kids had fun. It took them a long time to win but each of them got a prize. Everyone brought a new or gently used toy for the prize table. They ate tons of free popcorn...I guess they were hungry since I made tortilla soup for dinner and they didn't really like it.

It rained so much the past weekend our backyard pond flooded. It rose about 7 feet, the kids thought it was great. They walked around with Adam in the rain checking out the wildlife (frogs, a crawdad (Adam of course picked him up), turtles (they didn't see them during the walk...but I know they are in there), muskrats and a heron) By the time they made it all the way around Anika was in up to her knees. I found this a little disturbing because you could not see the bottom. What if she stepped on a frog or snapping turtle? Yikes! I guess I am a little more uptight than Adam so I am sure the kids were glad he is the one that took them. Poor Lochlan had to stay inside with me. I think he really wanted to go...he kept crawling over and banging on the sliding glass door. I took him out on the porch for a little bit; he didn't seem to mind the rain.

Volo Bog

Last weekend we went over to the Volo bog. Adam's sister and her family joined us for a leisurely 1/2 mile stroll around the marshland. It was tons of fun and we spotted turtles, frogs, snakes, grasshoppers and dragonflies. Lochlan slept in the stroller for about half the walk; when he woke up he was so content...that little boy loves being outside. It was so peaceful and beautiful. If it is nice this weekend I think we will go back and try the 3 mile walk in the woods that surround the bog. At first Anika was a little nervous because the wood path you walk on is just floating on the water so it is wobbly. After she realized the water was not very deep she was fine. Celtin chased a snake, tried to touch a frog, and picked up a grasshopper (after I snapped a picture, encouraged by Adam, he threw it in my face!)

Firsts!

Lochlan has had a lot of first recently:
1. A couple of weeks ago he stood without support for the first time...he will be holding onto the couch then let go for about 10 seconds until he loses balance and plops down on his bum. I have tried to get a picture but he just does not do this on command.
2. His first tooth broke through after a couple days of trauma.
3. He got his first toothbrush.
4. He climbed his first mountain (aka stairs).
5. Subsequently he had his first major tumble down the aforementioned "mountain".
6. He said dada for the first time followed a couple weeks later by mama. (I know he doesn't know what they mean yet but it still sounds so cute!) It is a little strange though because he mostly says dada when he is happy and mama when he is sad.
7. He took his first cruise along the furniture and loves to walk while we hold his hands.
8. He had his first taste of candy and pop! (Mostly Adams doing)

Labor Day Weekend

We had a great weekend. Adam took Thursday and Friday off, I love it when he is home! We made a trek to the Jelly Belly factory. It was kinda lame but the kids had fun. We drove around a big warehouse in a little train and watched movies about how the beans are made. We did get free samples and bought huge bags of reject candies for pretty cheap. They had a sample area where you can try different things including some really nasty sounding Jelly Belly's.
I told the kids they could not buy some yummy candy until they tried one of the odd flavors. Finally they gave in and both tried toothpaste (the least disgusting sounding), I had baby wipes (gross, tasted just like you would think a baby wipe tastes....Lochlan actually tried baby wipes on Monday) and Adam had skunk smell. They were all pretty nasty! We went to the beach in Kenosha, WI. It was a great day and the water was really nice. The kids had so much fun playing in the water and sand. Lochlan was a little unsure of the wet sand but loved playing in the dry sand. He didn't seem to mind the water too much but I think it was a little cold for him. Adam was throwing the kids in the air and letting them land in the water...they thought it was so fun. We went to the park with Adams sister and family but did not stay long because it was just way too hot. We headed home to run through sprinklers and "swim" in my niece Hayden's pool. We ordered pizza and had root beer floats-YUM! We love hanging out with them so I am glad they live close.
